David,
If you have a Yanmar, the Yanmar gray spray paint can cover a lot of small problems. Most boats didn't get a barrier coat to begin with. I had to strip and apply my own. It was well worth the trouble and peace of mind. I did soda blasting, which left a great surface for application of a barrier coat. It's a good investment if you intend on keeping the boat. What kind of paint would be appropriate to repair this with to keep rust down? 2. The yard service guy took a look at the bottom of my boat prior to the blasting job (this week?) and scraped about a 6" square area to see what was there. According to him there was no barrier coat under the bottom paint, but the gel coat looked fine. I have never heard of a bottom without barrier coat. Is that possible? I certainly plan to barrier coat it this spring prior to painting, but this was a surprise. Aries 1990 C&C 34+ New London, CT
