I've had owners call me a couple times on this issue with Yanmars. Most likely problems have been either the start button switch or the connector in the wiring harness.
Test the start button by jumping across the back. If starter engages strongly, push the button, If starter is weak or doesn't engage, then contacts on inside of start button are carboned up. As for the connector, remove any tape, pull apart, spread TefGel in both sides, connect and pull apart several times. Try it. If it works, re-tape it. Dennis C.
