I tried making something similar out of G10 and long bolts.  Problem was
the difference between the inside and outside dimension was either1/4 or
3/8 inch, so I could not get a collar. That would press out the old
bearing.  My mechanic pulled the tranny and slipped the shaft forward (I
had removed the prop).
