Came on this thread late, so if this has already been said, sorry! I changed my halyards to all rope years ago, and used the same rope/wire sheaves. No noticeable wear on the new line...and none on my hands either, for the 4 or 5 years I had all rope on the old sheaves. When I took my mast down next, I rebuilt the mastead sheave box and installed all new, rope only sheaves from Zephyrworks out of Port Townsend, Washington. My boat is a bit smaller, but at $38 a sheave, I thought it was a no-brainer! Never had any problems to this day! sam :-) C&C 26 Liquorice Ghost Lake Alberta
