Ryan, If I had similar openings in a bulkhead on Calypso I would follow my usual overkill route and: Square up the edges of the openings Fab an opening filler from similar plywood Taper the edges of the opening and the filler piece Filled epoxy the interface between the opening and the filler Epoxy/glass cloth/tape around edges Fair with epoxy/micro balloon or similar easy to sand filler Prime/paint
It is easy for me to go overboard on this type of project now as Calypso’s interior resembles a fiberglass repair shop. The extra mess and dust would not be noticed. They are from where a previous owner had installed a tangled series of add-on electrical panels. I removed all of them when I rewired the boat. Alas, now I have holes. I thought about buying some beadboard and covering it up - cutting the beadboard to go around the chart table, around the motor cooling system, and around the companionway, but that just seems like a lot of messy work. Does anyone have any ideas for covering these holes? The best idea I currently have is cutting some plywood, sticking it in the holes, fairing it with wood filler and painting it, but I figured I'd ask here first as you guys always come up with something I hadn't thought of. PS. - A friend suggested I hang some paintings... my wife nixed that idea.
