Reason is, you would have to reach over the evaporator to grab a cold beer if you install as you are suggesting. Jim from above has his mounted same way as mine. Against the back of the settee, running port/stbd with condenser under settee in front. This allows maximum access to deep portions of the reefer. It's a clean, efficient install IMO.
