cleaned mine with paint thinner soak and a soft tooth brush, and then used Harken white winch grease (sparingly) and Harkin pawl oil...no problems with that...the old grease was hard and caked in some cases but I was negligent and hadn't done some winches in over 10 years...now they all run smooth and sound happy...there are about a dozen winches on Alianna Dwight Veinot C&C 35 MKII, Alianna Head of St. Margaret's Bay, NS d.ve...@bellaliant.net
