Best Best part way to clean thru-hulls is soaking in muriatic acid. It is hazardous so care must be taken in handling the product. Wear gloves and use in a well ventilated area. Depending on the condition it may take a few changes of acid but it will clean everything completely. Rinse well with fresh water and apply lubrication to the valves afterwards. It also does wonders on plumbing hoses. Muritatic acid will not affect any bronze, brass or plastic parts. Do not use on anchor chains as it will remove galvanization.
