The MMSI is more than that. It is assigned to your radio and it is included in any DSC call you make, including any emergency call a DSC radio can make automatically ( that call would include your position).

I guess in an emergency they can use it to look up my vessel data, etc. and save a lot of questions in a crisis - they will probably ask those questions regardless. Dan
