Bayles Boat shop in Port Jeff is a community boat building shop well worth a visit. http://www.lisec.org/. Port Jeff itself is worth a visit for a boater. The Long Island Marine Museum in West Sayville is also worth a visit. https://www.limaritime.org/. And if you make it as far as Sag Harbor there is Whaling Museum and the town itself is an old Seaport with many yachts. They have an active race fleet on Wednesday eves. I am out in Montauk at the very end of the South Fork and the eastern most point in NY. Probably too far for you to venture but worth a visit. Jerry
