Thanks, Charles. I will call a local hydraulic shop and see what they say.
It looks like the design is fail safe, and it maintains reasonable tension
even with the gauge at 0, if the adjusting threads are tightened all the
way. A long turnbuckle or a pulley system will probably cost me more than a
cheap rebuild, so I'll give it a try.

Mine has the ram at the top and pump with gauge at the bottom, so an
integral design I believe. I assume this is original, but I'm not sure.
Anyone else have a HydraTech unit like this?
