If you like a large contingent of C&Cs in one place, visit Ottawa. There are over 60 C&Cs of different size in our Club (Nepean Sail Club) alone. I think that the C&C 27 fleet on the Lake is 50+ strong (they run a Nepean One Design races all season long). Not that you could sail to here.

I worked with the National Yacht Club in running the regatta. The first couple of years we had close to over 125 yachts. But it dropped to less than 80 and finally it stopped. It was a regatta and was basically race orientated. We had a few boats that were in what we called the cruiser division and had our own on-the-water activities. During the same period of time, we had a group called the Great Lakes Owners Association and we would meet during the winter for a healthy meal and lots of socializing. People drove from all over to attend and we could always count on George and Helen being there. Another year we held a rendezvous in Bayfield, Ontario on Lake Huron and had about 6 boats plus a couple of drive-ins. Those were the days. I don’t think people want to travel any distance to race a new fleet of boats in a regatta. Instead, they would probably entertain the idea of going to a dockage where they can socialize, swap stories, show off their boats and if there is time, visit one of the local hotspots. I belong to an RV group now and our attendance is really high for a 4 nite social campout. Whereas a large event with a schedule does not get the attendance needed. There are quite a few clubs in the Toronto (GTA) and probably have 15-20 transients sites and would be willing to host an event. I am sure there are still a lot of C&C’s in the area that would sail there and quite a few more that would drive to the event. I can almost guarantee it that Gladys and I would be there to show off our (land) yacht. A social event does take a bit planning but it is nowhere near the same as a regatta. It was mainly race related . I would be interested in helping organize the event . As one of the original ten from Stu’s list . It would be great to get together again Sent from Joe Bognar On Oct 23, 2019, at 3:45 PM, Glen Eddie via CnC-List <cnc-list@cnc-list.com<mailto:cnc-list@cnc-list.com>> wrote: Hello everyone, Just checking in to see if there is any interest in a 2020 regatta on the north shore of Lake Ontario? I know the National used to hold the regatta and it died for various reasons, but it would be great if we could have something on the lake where it all began. I'll take that as an indication of the success of this year's event! Additionally, we are already discussing a location for 2021! It tentatively looks like Solomons for 2021. Dates TBD. As for 2020: We are REQUESTING input on locations and dates. * Weekend dates we are in the early stages of considering are the last weekend of Sept and the first weekend of Oct. (Sept 25, 26,27 and Oct 2, 3, 4) * Previous year's polls have indicated that the highest number of people were interested in locations on the Chesapeake Bay between Annapolis and Solomons. Outliers both further North and South voted but not in sufficiently high numbers to warrant an immediate venue consideration. * I also say that those who attend most in the past get priority vote for future events. As such - Rainy Days, La Neige, Coquina, Crazy Legs, Der Barron, Sea Hawk, SEA YA !, and Ciothog - your input is absolutely requested. * A lot of spirit has been generated around Baltimore's Anchorage Marina. All thoughts, inputs, votes, considerations, etc. are more than welcome. Please! I'm begging! I'll re-poll shortly but without input we'll have to just make executive decisions. I say it again and again, "This isn't my event, it is ours. If no one attends then the event is a failure of efforts. I want it to be whatever, where ever, and whenever is best for the largest number of interested people."
