Without seeing the spreaders it is hard to say but generally my experience
is that the paint chips or wears off and then the aluminum underneath looks
terrible. The stainless fasteners in the spreader tips may seize and the
aluminum may wear more rapidly where it holds the shroud. That being said,
the spreaders tips are not terribly hard to assess for integrity. Scrub
with a wire brush and inspect. Look specifically for cracks in all the
components.

In spite of the above comments, diy is fine for giving you piece of mind
but a knowledgeable rigger will be able to inspect the whole rig and give a
prescription for everything. They will most likely pick up on things you
would have never thought to look at. The cost of using someone qualified
is pennies compared to the cost and liability associated with loosing a
rig. The payment receipt and inspection notes will be worth gold for
limiting your liability should a failure and subsequent litigation occur.
