It’s the Winterville Machine Shop—they do a lot of custom work for DuPont in
Kinston (I think they ‘spun off’ from DuPont back in the day!
Their facility is on Mill St. In ‘downtown’ Winterville—I don’t have a phone
number for them. Call them early—at least in the summertime they start about
4:00 AM and the place closes about noon!

Most likely the drums are worn smooth and do not provide enough friction to
hold the line.
I took all my drums to a local machine shop and they ‘re-knurled’ all of them
for $30 each. You can even choose the knurl ‘pattern’—simple vertical, diamond,
etc.
Just be careful that the shop is not too aggressive with them since such a
knurl can chew up the line!

That directory doesn’t seem to have Barient 21-33 unless they are listed as a
different size.I’m not sure the exact diameter of the lines but all seem to
fill the tailers appropriately. I'd guess the Main halyard is around 11mm. Is
there info somewhere that has the recommended size? Do the drums need knurling
or something?

Is the line slipping or is the drum rotating?  What diameter line?

It's almost like I'm doing something wrong because all of my cabin top Barient
21-33 ST winches seem to let the line slip even with 4 wraps tucked snuggly
into the tailer. Putting up the main and reefing is a bear. Could it be that
all of the drums happen to have lost their grip? Lastly, does anyone have the
service manual for these? I couldn't find it on the L-36 site. thanks all!
