Richard, The coated carabiner I referenced states a rated load of 650 lbs. The one I used to use was in that range. Touche's slips in both Mandeville and Pensacola are well protected from wave action (except for the occasional party barge/powerboat idiot).
I'd think that was adequate if your spring line has some stretch (i.e. three strand). I'm also thinking I can somehow slide some clear vinyl hose over my existing spring hook/carabiner to give it a protective cover. Otherwise, I'll continue to use the soft shackle alone. -- Dennis C.
