Hi Chuck

Have a friend who recently bought a 34r. Who do you recommend for making sails
specifically for the 34r that knows and understands the boat when designing and
building a main sail?

Thanks

I'd suggest calling a hydraulic ram repair company nearest to you. The guys
who repair dozers and backhoe rams. My local guys rebuilt my leaking Navtec
-10 system, ram and remote pump station for $35 when Navtec dealer quoted $750.
Been good for at least 5 years so far.

I'm looking to replace my Stearn gauges on the hydraulic panel for my vang
and backstay. Any suggestion on where to find a suitable equivalent gauge.
They are currently fogged up so bad that I can't read them. They are 3500
psi and 5500 psi.

agree with cetol, several coats...I did 5 coats a few years back when I had
the hand rails off for rebedding which I did with butyl tape and not much
upkeep yet, just light sanding and touch up on the top surfaces so no
cutting in or scraping...I like the look of teak on these older boats
otherwise I might have gone to stainless steel hand rails

Ditto Cetol. Minimum 3 coats. Better 5 coats. Follow with 3 coats Cetol
Gloss.

Maintenance coat of gloss twice a year.

Wipe sanded teak with acetone to remove surface oils immediately before 1st
coat.

That's the teak oil I use on my cockpit seat, because varnish is too
slippery. It holds up well.

I painted everything else. The funny thing about paint is people ask me if
it's Cetol.

When I had teak on the deck I was using Smith's clear penetrating epoxy
sealer. If you're looking for a particular color then apply the color
first and then top with multiple coats of CPES. I also used cetol deck
stain (SDR) (siding, decks, and rails) in natural or teak - I can't
remember which. The wood was already very weathered so I never sanded for
either product.

The Pardee's never did anything accept "pickle" their teak with saltwater.
It will be gray and natural and hold up pretty well. Best part is that you
won't need to do maintenance.

After the engine is winterized in the Fall, I place a plastic pan under
it.....not sure why but I do. Every Spring, there is approximately a
half a cup or 250 ml of antifreeze in the pan.

I have looked everywhere for the source of this antifreeze but I can't
find out where it is coming from. The boat was launched 3 weeks ago,
the engine has about 3 hours on it since then, the pan is still under
the engine but there is no antifreeze in it. And the antifreeze does
not appear during the sailing season.

I notice every Spring the level of the antifreeze in the 'overflow
container' is down a bit and I refill to the 'FULL LEVEL' but that
container is not leaking. It's a mystery!

Anybody experience this and/or have any ideas where this antifreeze
could be originating from?
