Yes I did it twice during my 27 years of ownership, first time because the
diaphragm was starting to leak, the second time because it was 15 years old and
I already had a spare kit. Not really hard but you have to work methodically on
a clean area and take note of the assembly before dismantling it ( especially
which one-way valve goes where from fuel intake and to carb ). Inspect the
small rod driven by the engine and leave it in the block once cleaned. The only
hard part ( for me ) is keeping the springs in place while you put the cover .

I’ve overhauled the electrical/ignition and cooling systems on my A4, and plan
to overhaul the fuel system next. I suspect my fuel pump may not be operating
well.
