I don't know if it is so wild. My 38 mk2 has a 36 HP universal with max RPM
about 2800. My prop is a Flexofold 2 blade 15 1/2 X 16.

I can usually get 5.5 knots (my typical cruising speed) at about 1700 RPM, and
about 7.3 or 7.4 at 2300-which is about 80% of max RPM.

IIRC you had a prop with 14' pitch. I think that smaller pitch props were
typical on boats with Atomic 4 gas engines because of higher RPMs. Was your's
upgraded to a diesel and retained the original prop by any chance?

6.8kn at 2200 is wild! We've never gotten that speed even with a freshly
painted bottom. I spoke with a marine transmission tech and he said he doubts
the transmission is slipping unless the fluid was black. Also on a side note he
said they are very difficult if not impossible to get parts for so baby yours!
Fred at PYI suggested to the pitch at 18º and see how it goes so that's
what we'll do when we haul out and put a new bottom on. He said 14º would
be way too low.
thanks all.
