You're dealing with a Linux-ignorant, sorry!
That worked, but when applying the RPM 
(rpm -ihv ftp://ftp.cobaltnet.com/pub/experimental/MySQL-3.22.21-2C1.mips.rpm)
the following message appears:

error: failed dependencies:
        ld.so.1 is needed by MySQL-3.22.21-2C1  

What is missing?

Did you su to root before trying to install the packages?

[you@box]$ su
Password: <enter admin password>
[root@box]$ rpm -ivh (etc)...
