Java installs nicely on the Raq, no different than another Linux/Unix 
based machines.  Although the rpm, and tarballs leave some things out. 
You may still need to set some Environment variables like JAVA_HOME, 
JAVA_PATH, and most important CLASSPATH.

I prefer to put these into the /etc/profile file, and make entries below 
the PATH env. var. This will ease any manual Java development or code 
compilation.

If you need a good Java Application Server, JRun plays very well with 
Apache and Cobalt Raq's.  Its a bit pricey, but worth the expense.  You 
can install a free Developer edition, and if you like, buy a license, 
enter the license/serial number & the Dev edition is upgraded to what 
ever version you bought.  No further installation is required.
