I answered my own question, regarding .pkg files. I will leave the answer
here, just in case somebody else needs it:
To use the rpm's in a .pkg file, simply mv X.pkg to X.tar.gz. Then use
standard decompression methods. There should be a directory called RPMS,
which contains pertainent rpm's.
