If you don't use ssh, you will increase the probabilities of the machine for
being hacked.

Using SSH does not preclude use of standard telnet and FTP. They run right
alongside each other, and you can still use your existing telnet client to
connect to your server. To make an SSH connection, you need an SSH client
such as the popular SecureCRT (http://www.vandyke.com).
