The driver i use is called "org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver" (memorable isn't it?) and can be found, allong with docs at http://mmmysql.sourceforge.net/
It's a level 4 jdbc driver which means it does everything and is 100% java implemented. I got mysql access up and running pretty rapidly with this baby. Have fun.
