Not nearly as surprised as I was by your note. It
turns out that I was confused by my recollection of the
DRAM memory chip vs. the bank size, and our wealth of
product literature that supported my confusion.
We haven't tested it, but the chipset will support up
to 2 GByte if both banks are stuffed to the limit.
It is still true that there are new memory chips with
geometries that are not supported by the ALI chip, so
there is some chance particular DIMMs might not work.
Also, the L2 cache tag only supports 512M worth of
memory, so anything beyond that will only be cached in
the on chip L1 cache.
For general consumption - note that we have not tested
any configurations beyond 512 MB, so we do not have a
list of approved vendors.
