Hello all. I'm at my wits end and need the collective expertise of this group.
I just designed a new application for a customer and put it on my server (cobalt raq4i). They are happy. While we were developing it, we were accessing the site using a staging address under our domain name. (lipidforum.followers.net) Last week we set up their DNS records and switched their primary name (lipidforum.com) over to the site. Both the cutomer and I use the same ISP for connectivity, tampabay road runner. For everyone else on the Internet, the switch went perfectly. However for us roadrunner folks, it did not. Because it's a shiny new website, and a shiney new application, they've been in there a lot. It just so happens that 5 times this week, road runner's DNS servers mysteriously forgot how to resolve the domain names lipidforum.com and www.lipidforum.com. I go to www.tracert.com and do a traceroute from around the Internet and it works. Germany, USA, Australia, UK, no problems. However us tampabay.rr.com folks cannot see the site. roadrunner does NOT host the DNS for this site. They are merely the DNS server for both me and the client (which is fortunate, because I can actually see the problem instead of thinking the client was insane, which is what I would've been inclined to do). So now, since it's gone too far, I have to call roadrunner and complain. However I don't know what to say. I can barely describe the problem in quasi-technical terms, and when I call them, there's no chance I'm going to be able to talk to anyone who knows what DNS even means. Does anyone have an idea on what may cause this type of problem? Do you agree with my belief that it is a roadrunner problem? Can you see the site OK? Sorry that this is somewhat ot, I know it's not related to my Raq server at all, but I don't have any other resources for such technical questions. P.S. If anyone on this list works for tampabay.rr.com, can you help?
