But perhaps we all loose sight of the fact that the appliances are NOT
designed for advanced users/administrators/developers.  They are what they
are.

Of course some person at Sun might actually say:
"There are a significant number of questions/requests/complaints about the
product line(s).  Perhaps we could actually SELL and update package to
answer some of the questions/requests/complaints."

But of course, that would fly in the face of Sun logic, wouldn't it?
