well is there some kind of serialnumbers from the bad seriels i had indeed some time disk errors, i then reboot it and it solved itself

In my case, not only would the sync fail, but both disks would sometimes get corrupt & have to be restored from the original CD. This turned out to be a known issue with at least one batch of 550s, and was a problem with the drive controller hardware on the motherboard. We shipped the machine in for repair under warranty, the main board was replaced, & I had it back in 48 hrs. It's been just fine since.
