Many of my cobbler profiles that were created before I upgraded to 2.0 now list their parent distribution as
"<<inherit>>" with no other visible reference in the console or web interface as to which
distribution they're "inheriting". However if I view their generated kickstart they all still know which
distribution to use. I assume it's being stored in a variable that isn't visible from "cobbler profile report"
or the web interface?
This could be a subprofile, which means it is parented off of another
profile, rather than a distribution. I'm guessing that is what you
have, in which case, that would be normal.
Are there any consequences I should be aware of if I try to use "cobbler profile edit --name=...
--distro=..." to change "<<inherit>>" to match the parent I think goes with each
profile?
Is this behaviour a bug?
Not if you have subprofiles, which I suspect you do.
That's fine and makes sense. How would I find out who the parent of a subprofile is? In 1.6 I think
this was displayed in the same part of the interface as "<<inherit>>" is now,
like on the profiles page of the web interface it would show the parent as either a distribution or
another profile. Now it only shows the parent if it's a distribution and doesn't tell you who the
parent is if it's another profile.

The value for parent will name the profile, rather than being blank.
This is currently set in Cobbler as a "hidden field", which is a bug.
