Lamar Area - Two Buttes Field Trip - May 1st-3rd

This trip will cover "hot spots" in Lamar, two private ranches south of Lamar,
Two Buttes SWA and may include a special opportunity to view Lesser
Prairie-Chickens. The trip will start Friday, although it will be possible to
join the group Saturday. It will conclude Sunday about noon. This trip
usually sees Burrowing Owl, Mountain Plover, and many "Eastern" migrants
including thrushes, vireos, and warblers. There is a nesting Golden Eagle in
the area. Also, the water level in Turk's Pond is low and should be good for
shorebirds. Last year a Kentucky Warbler was at the Rocking 7K Ranch in late
April. Judi Ogle has once again done a wonderful job of organizing this trip.
All meals from Friday supper through Sunday breakfast, and two nights lodging,
and ranch entrance fees are included for approximately $200 (preliminary cost)
per person with a discount for couples. Participation will be limited to 12
persons. A DOW Habitat Stamp is required as we will be visiting two SWAs.
Contact Jim Beatty, the trip leader, at [email protected] or 970-385-0184
for further details and any questions about camping and/or joining the trip
after Friday including fee adjustments.
