Tom Wilberding and I are heading to Cortez to bird Yellowjacket Canyon
Saturday.   Leaving Boulder Thursday we birded Chaffee County by the road side.
Trout creek had a flock of 8 Clark’s Nutcracker.   American Pipt was a
surprise in the fields SW of Johnson Village along with about 500 Mule Deer .
Heading into Salida on 291 we encountered a large flock of Pinyon Jays maybe
75-80 birds.   Stopping to observe a Red-tailed Hawk on the nest.   Its mate
was a few trees over and in the next tree was a smaller raptor.   Turns out it
was a Peregrine Falcon .   Sands Lake SWA had Great-tailed Grackle, Common
Goldeneye, and Ring-necked Duck seemed to be good birds for the lake.
