Was out in the Mesa wetlands & hillsides behind Holmes Middle School
in NW CO Spgs (where I teach), during a half-hour break from school
around 10 am today, and saw/heard the following, in chronological
order:

Cooper's Hawk, House Wren, Gray Catbird, House Finch, Yellow-breasted
Chat, Spotted Towhee, Mourning Dove, Green-tailed Towhee, Brown-headed
Cowbird, Western Tanager, Song Sparrow, Nashville Warbler, Western
Meadowlark, American Goldfinch, Eurasian Collared Dove, Magpie (an
occupied nest), and Red-winged Blackbird... (as well as Mule Deer and
Coyote).

This area is a natural, mostly protected streamside extension north &
a bit west of (but continuous with) Sondermann Park--upstream along
Mesa Creek. Parking is generally available behind the north corner of
the school.

At home before school, further NW in CO Spgs, had a Brown Thrasher
very actively thrashing about in last fall's uncleared oak leaves, as
well as Virginia's Warbler and Black-headed Grosbeak up in the newly
leafing oaks.
