Well, it was a very long run; Rosy-Finches were here from December 2 through April 11. When they first arrived, they came mostly around when it snowed. For the last several weeks, they've come in fewer and fewer numbers. In between that...they were here in the hundreds; five to six hundred...daily. But it was bound to slow down. Yesterday visitors got to see a Gray and a couple Blacks in the fewer than half a dozen birds that arrived...and today there are none. This is the third year I've fed them; going through 50# of sunflower seed a week there for awhile.
And now I've cut back on the seed and put out the hummingbird feeders. Soon I should have three species of grosbeak, a couple buntings, various warblers, sparrows, and finches...and several many hummingbirds. So far I've only had Broad-tailed, Black-chinned, Rufus and Calliopes stop by...but in numbers of 50-75, perhaps I'll get lucky and find an unusual visitor in the mix. Wouldn't that just make spring, though?
