Hello, Birders.

I saw a cooperative first-cycle Lesser Black-backed Gull late yesterday
morning, Thursday, Jan. 13th, standing on the ice at Waneka Lake (Greenlee
Preserve), Boulder County.

Lots of gulls and geese have been using Waneka Lake during the past week or so.
Tips for viewing: The geese arrive pre-dawn and all take off by mid-morning. If
you want to see them (Ross's and Snow recently), get there around sunup. The
gulls, meanwhile, arrive just after sunup (coming in from Valmont) then
gradually drift off during the next 6 or 7 hours. The best viewing--the only
decent viewing, really--is from the east side of the lake; you'll have the sun
behind you, and you'll be quite close to the birds.
