Hello All,

While returning home from Bear Creek Lake Park this morning, I observed a Harlan's Hawk on the west side of C470 between Quincy and Belleview . The bird perched on several telephone poles on the west side of C470 before flying across the highway and landing in a grove of cottonwoods on the east side. The bird was dark overall with a small amount of white mottling on the lower breast. I didn't have a good look at the tail, but it appeared whitish or pale gray. Wheeler in his book "Raptors of Western North America" would call the bird a dark intermediate morph Harlan's Hawk.

Last year there was a similar Harlan's hawk in the same location. My records indicate I first saw it on 2-12-10. Although today is the 1st day I have seen this hawk, my wife has been reporting to me she has seen a dark hawk in this area several times in the last two weeks.
