On my drive west on 88th to check the effect of the wind on the ice at
Standley Lake today I wasn't surprised, but was still pleased to see a Bald
Eagle flying motionless in the gale, right overhead.

I was surprised, and even more pleased to see a Double-crested Cormorant
fighting the wind in the same spot on my way back. FOS for me. The
rookery has been quiet since I started checking the past few weeks, but it
looks like that may be changing. The bird was aimed straight for it, and
not making good time at all.

As for the ice which had been covering most of the surface on Tuesday, it
has all been pushed to a narrow sliver on the eastern shore...which wasn't a
surprise at all.
