In the process of filling out a Verification form for the Black-chinned Sparrow, I note that the field guides show the species with a gray breast and belly, the same color as the head. When we saw this bird yesterday, it had light-colored breast -- cream or ivory -- that contrasted with the gray head.

Do others agree with this observation? And if so, what does that say about its ancestors?
