Tempel Grove (Kiowa CR 35 at the Fort Lyon Ditch): it is OK to walk along the ditch road on either side of CR 35, but it is NOT OK to walk around in their yard. Please respect these rules for the nice folks who fought hard to save the trees. --A singing Hooded Warbler was reported by Moss at Tempel Grove on May 23. Boulder County: --2 Caspian Terns were reported by Blackford in the NW corner of Cottonwood Marsh on May 23 and 2 Green Herons were reported at Walden ponds by Blackford on May 23. --A Northern Waterthrush was reported by Tumasonis at the end of the board walk at Walden Ponds on May 24. --A Ovenbird was reported by Tumasonis above the Gregory Canyon Parking Lot just above where the Ampitheater Trail and Bluebell Baird Trail split on May 24. Custer County: --At DeWeese Reservoir on May 21, Rich Miller reported 1f Chestnut-sided Warbler, 1m Magnolia Warbler, 1m Northern Parula, 1m Black-and-white Warbler, 2 f Hooded Warblers. All were in the willow thicket below the dam. On May 22, Hinds reported the Chestnut-sided Warbler and Northern Parula in Willows by the shore at DeWeese. Delta County: --A Snowy Plover was reported by Robinsong at Sweitzer Lake SP on May 22. Eagle County: --A f Summer Tanager was reported by Komar at the Eagle Rest Area on May 21. El Paso County: --At Hansen Nature Area in Fountain Creek RP a Northern Waterthrush was reported by Kosar on May 22. --A Green Heron was reported by Kosar at Rose's Pond in Fountain Creek RP on May 22. --A Chestnut-sided Warbler was reported by Pals in front of the Bear Creek Nature Center in Colorado Springs on May 20. Patrick reported that the Chestnut-sided Warbler continues by the parking lot at Bear Creek Nature Center in Colorado Springs on May 23. --A Chestnut-sided Warbler and Magnolia Warbler were reported by Pals at Bear Creek RP on the spring count on May 21. --A f Black-and-white Warbler and 2 Northern Waterthrush were reported by Pals at Fountain Creek RP on May 23. El Paso/Pueblo Counties -- Chico Basin Ranch Chico Basin Ranch is a fee area ($15/day) --At Ranch HQ on May 21, Stiles reported a Northern Waterthrush, f Summer Tanager, and Green Heron. --A Curve-billed Thrasher and Green Heron were reported by Chessick at Chico Basin Ranch on May 22. --The Prothonotary Warbler that was banded on May 18 was seen again on May 21 near the banding station as reported by Gobris. --An ARCTIC TERN was reported by Bill Maynard at HQ pond on May 24. --A f Black-and-white Warbler was reported by Bill Maynard at the port-a-potties at the Banding Station. A f Summer Tanager was a the Banding Station on May 24 as reported by Bill Maynard. 2 GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH were reported by Bill Maynard-- 1 at the Casita amd 1 at the Banding Station on May 24. Fremont County: --On the Canyon City Riverwalk between Raynolds Ave & Sells Ave on May 21, Percival reported 1m MOURNING WARBLER, 1 singing Yellow-throated Vireo, 1 singing m Black-and-white Warbler, and 1 Northern Waterthrush. On the eastern section of the riverwalk Percival reported on May 21 an Indigo Bunting. On May 22, Peterson relocated the MOURNING WARBLER on the Canyon City Riverwalk. --On May 23, Core reported a singing m Black-and-white Warbler at Canon City Riverwalk and a juv Broad-winged Hawk circled over the Raynolds bridge. Jefferson County: --2 Northern Waterthrush were banded by McBurney at the RMBO Chatfied Banding Station on May 23. --A Summer Tanager was reported by Such in Clear Creek Canyon on May 23. --A Blackpoll Warbler was reported by Clark & Lupfer at Bass Pond in the Wheatridge Greenbelt on May 21. Larimer County: --A Gray-cheeked Thrush was reported By Mammoser at the Environmental Learning Center at the east end of Drake Road in Fort Collins on May 22. --On May 23, Wild reported a singing Magnolia Warbler and heard a Black-and-white Warbler at the Environmental Learning Center. --A Northern Waterthrush and Blackpoll Warbler were reported by Matthews at Lake Estes on May 24. Mesa County: --BLACK-CHINNED SPARROWS were reported by Schmoker as being seen on No Thoroughfare Trail from Devil's Kitchen Trail by the CFO convention on May 20. On May 22, Mlodinow reported that the BLACK-CHINNED SPARROW was seen again in the afternoon. --A Worm-eating Warbler was reported by Shoffner on the Colorado River Trail in Palisade on May 21. --Scott's Orioles were reported by Shoffner at Brewster's Ridge on May 22. Moffat County: --A Chestnut-sided Warbler was reported by Luke at Loudy-Simpson Park in Craig on May 18. On May 19 Luke reported that Dodson refound the Chestnut-sided Warbler and Luke found a Northern Waterthrush in same area. On May 20, Luke reported Chestnut-sided Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler and 1 GLOSSY IBIS at Loudy-Simpson Park in Craig. On May 24, Luke reported Chestnut-sided Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler and Indigo Bunting at Loudy-Simpson Park in Craig. Prowers County: --A m Black-and-white Warbler was reported by Mark Miller at the Holly Rest Area on May 21. --At Lamar Community College Woods (LCCW) on May 22, Mark Miller reported 1m Blackpoll Warbler at the north end and a PHILADELPHIA VIREO at the south end. --A Northern Parula was reported by Moss at LCCW on May 24. Pueblo County: --A singing WOOD THRUSH was reported by Silverman in Colorado CIty along Greenhorn Creek west of Meadowcreek Lane cul-de-sac on May 24. --A Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Silverman at Greenhorn Meadows Park in Colorado CIty on May 23. --2 singing Ovenbirds were reported by Silverman in Rye on the Bartlett Trail about .5 mile north of the Huerfano County Line on May 22. Rio Grande County: --A Black-throated Sparrow was reported by Rawinski at Monte Vista NWR on May 24. It was on 7S and 2E. Summit County: --A f White-winged Crossbill was reported by Komar in a Dillon neighborhood on May 21. Washington County: --A singing m Tennessee Warbler was reported by Smith at Last Chance on May 22. --2 Northern Waterthrush were reported by Mark Miller at Last Chance on May 22. --At Prewitt on May 24, Peterson reported Great-crested Flycatcher, f Summer Tanager, Ovenbird and 2 Purple Martins. --At the Akron Golf Course on May 24, Peterson reported 1 m Chestnut-sided Warbler, 3 Magnolia Warblers, and 1 Ovenbird. Weld County: --A Northern Parula and f BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER were reported by Sparks at Crow Valley CG on May 24. The DFO field trip for the Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday, May 28 to May 30 will be to Nebraska's Crescent Lake NWR led by Mary Cay Burger (303-771-3431) or mcburg...@juno.com. Meet leader at Hudson on I-76 at 8:30 am Saturday, May 28. Will drive to Nebraska for lots of great birding. Possible other stops: Ash Hollow State Park, Wildcat Hills Rec Area, and Tamarack Ranch SWA. You will need to bring 3 lunches and 2 breakfasts and plan to eat 2 dinners in restaurants. Call or email leader for motel suggestions and carpooling information. Trip will return to Denver area by 6 pm on Monday, May 30. The DFO field trip for Monday, May 30 will by to 88th and South Platte Trail led by Jackie King (303-287-1644). Meet the leader at 0800 at the parking area at E. 88th and the South Platte River. From I-76 take E 88th Ave exit, go west on 88th for 1.6 miles, then turn south at Colorado Blvd. Turn left into parking lot for South Platte River Greenway Trailhead. Trip will be handicapped accessible. Bring lunch and drinking water.
