Today at 4:15pm, Jeanne and I stopped by Castlewood Canyon State Park on our way to pick up a friend at DIA. Coming from Colorado Springs we took the south entrance on the west side of the park (Castlewood Canyon Rd off Douglas County Rd 11).
If you have not seen these very pretty birds, this is a great spot for them. As you proceed north on Castlewood Canyon Road, you will see a series of bluebird boxes on the west side of the road. The Bobolinks were in the large meadow directly across from Box #8. They come up out of the grass, move a ways and go back down, but sometimes they sit up long enough for some good views. A scope would be helpful for those times that they stay up on a weed, but our best views were with binoculars. I was fun to see them. Good birding, everyone!
