I birded a section of the West Poudre River Trail northwest of Ft. Collins this morning with some friends and was pleased to find a Red-headed Woodpecker in the grove of tall dead cottonwood trees. I got a few photos and it called twice before the flickers chased it off to the north. Sounds like there have been quite a few around recently.
A Blue Grosbeak was singing a few hundred yards east and I was able to get it in the scope from about 20 yards away for my companions, who were on their first-ever birding trip. We parked at the Lions Park lot off Overland Trail and walked east; the river is still quite high and the path under the bridge is closed but the rest of the trail was open. good birding- Andrew -- Andrew Core Tucson, AZ (& Ft Collins, CO thru July) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group.
