I had computer issues and could not post this til now. Nothing
earth-shaking,
but I had a pleasant day out east on 10/14, with some arrivals from the
north.

Just east of Cope was a Harlan's Hawk (FOS)
Along the South Republican River near Hale Ponds, a red Fox Sparrow (FOS)
popped
up in the sun. Sweet.

Other birds were Mountain Bluebirds,
a busy Winter Wren (FOS),
a flock of high-flying, yodelling Sandhill Cranes,
and at least two, maybe four, Sprague's Pipits on Windmill Hill.
This is "the usual spot, just west of road LL 50 and north of the South
Republican River.

The latter is draining the life-blood from Bonny Reservoir, and it's sad
to look down from the top the dam and watch the water gush out, gone
forever.

The purpose of my trip was to see if studying "Bob and Bob" could pay off.
It did.
I had looked at their section on Winter Wren and found that the high count
for Colorado (up until 1991) was "five on October 24, 1987,at Hale, Yuma
County."
This probably meant the hamlet of Hale, but the Hale Ponds picnic site is
where
I looked, and yes, one was there. I hope to go back on October 24 and see
four more.
