As in previous years, the gulls that forage at the Larimer County landfill are
using the south end of Horsetooth Reservoir as a drinking and resting spot.
Some of them fly over the Spring Canyon Dam and rest on the water (telescope
required), but most are sitting on shore at the southernmost end, viewed
readily from the County Park (fee area). There were about 500 gulls at 1 pm
this afternoon, mostly Ring-billed Gulls and California Gulls, but also few
dozen Herring gulls, 3 juvenile Thayer’s Gulls, and a handful of Lesser
Black-backed Gulls, including a second cycle bird and 2-4 adults.

This location is just southwest of Fort Collins. From I25, go west on Harmony
Road about 10 miles until you get to the reservoir at Spring Canyon Dam. This
is the road that leads to Masonville.

I am sure there will be an update tomorrow from the various Larimer County gull
hangouts, as quite a few interesting gulls have moved in recently.
