An odd duck was found by Doug Kibbe in the area near Barbour Ponds.
We went West on 119 from I-25 to the 2nd pond west of the entrance road to
Barbour Ponds.
It is on the north side of the road. There were geese and just a few ducks,
mostly normal looking Am Wigeon in
an ice hole there. Among these was a bird typical for Am Wigeon in all
respects,
except that the face below the eye & below the green stripe was entirely
white. Apparently this is not
a hybrid, but a rare genetic mutation, such as is pictured near the bottom
of this
article on odd ducks:

The largest flock of waterfowl were in open ice in a pond on the south
side of 119 near there, but it was too foggy and the view was into the sun,
so we could not see much. If anyone gets a photo of the odd duck,
pls send me a copy.

We searched in vain for open water near the site where the Tufted Duck
was seen yesterday. Union (aka Calkins Res on some maps) is open, but was
very foggy, so who knows
what will be there when the fog lifts?
We also checked the Frederick Rec Area ponds, where there were a few
ice holes, filled with geese, a few ducks, fog and no swans. It is found
by going east on 119 from I-25 to COlroado, AKA WEld 13, but the roads
there are named, not numbered. Go a few miles south til
you see the dam on the right, turn into the park there and mount the low
dam, being careful not to scare off the waterfowl.
