About 35 observers counted 100 species on Sunday Jan 1 for the Loveland CBC 
(previous high species total was 93). New birds for the count were:
Tundra Swan, Blue-winged Teal, Iceland Gull (3), Mew Gull, Barn Owl, Rock Wren, 
Eastern Bluebird (2), Lincoln’s Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow (2). New High Counts 
were Canvasback (16), Eared Grebe (4), Rough-legged Hawk (7), Ring-billed Gull 
(1125), Herring Gull (125), Lesser Black-backed Gull (2), Brewer’s Blackbird 
(21). Three additional species have been recorded for Count Week: Wild Turkey, 
Merlin and Great-tailed Grackle. The Loveland CBC are projects of the National 
Audubon Society and the Fort Collins Audubon Society. Thanks go to all the 
volunteer participants, the Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch (for hosting our dinner) 
and the Larimer County Natural Resources department (for permitting access to 
restricted properties).
