Denver Audubon Society, Master Birder program, had a field trip saturday, 6/2
to the Karval, Colorado area. Seth Gallagher took us to some very special
sites. We got excellent looks at Mountain Plovers and Burrowing Owls. A lovely
surprise was watching a family of Northern Shrike. The typical short grass
prairie birds were observed, along with observations of some prairie reptiles.
At Karval Reservoir State Wildlife Area, 1, White-faced Ibis, 1, Clark's Grebe
and 1, White-rumped Sandpiper, and some other water birds were seen. The
general vicinity is really in need of rain. I hope this will happen sooner than
latter for all the ranchers near Karval. A great day to some lovely places.
