On Saturday I participated in a major volunteer effort to restore and protect
the Gray Rock Trail up Poudre Canyon from the ravages of water cascading down
steep barren slopes, completely denuded of foliage by the recent wildfires.  As
we were working through the heavily burned area, the only noticeable birds were
Steller's Jays, and they were quite numerous.  Obviously, they are finding an
easy food source in the burned forest.  Does anyone have any idea what it might
be?  Perhaps Dave Leatherman can chime in.

We also heard on two occasions, when we stopped making noise, the gnawing of
insects working their way out of burned trees.  Mountain Pine Beetles that
survived the fire?
