Saturday was a slow morning due to WIND - Could only open the most sheltered nets, and there weren't many birds out and about. It was nice to have a chance to visit with so many of you who were out for the RMBO picnic, and it was fun to have a few birds that we don't catch very often - Red-breasted Nuthatch, Clay-colored Sparrow, a young Lazuli Bunting. Here's the breakdown:
Western Wood-pewee 1 Dusky Flycatcher 1 Black-capped Chickadee 1 new, 1 banded 2011 Red-breasted Nuthatch 1 House Wren 1 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 2 Yellow Warbler 2 Wilson's Warbler 5 Clay-colored Sparrow 1 Song Sparrow 1 Lazuli Bunting 1 Sunday was clear, calm and, by 10:30, hot. But banded 49 new birds before we shut nets due to heat: Western Wood-pewee 4 Least Flycatcher 1 House Wren 1 Yellow Warbler 17 Ovenbird 1 Common Yellowthroat 1 Wilson's Warbler 18 Yellow-breasted Chat 1 Chipping Sparrow 5 We will be closed Wednesday this week. Otherwise, open every day, weather permitting, in this, our first official week. Looks like it is going to stay hot, so if you plan to visit come early...
