We did a bit of birding yesterday at Valco Ponds, Osprey Picnic Area and Swim
Beach area, hoping the cold front brought new birds.
It was overall quite slow. Of note, was a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker just west of
the parking lot at Valco.
North side of the river had a few Yellow-rumps, Wilson's and a flock of Bushtits
An Osprey was flying over the river.
At the Swim Beach lake : 2 Yellowlegs; one was a Greater and the other one
which we saw very briefly was smaller and darker but it flew to a small "cove"
on the north side and we could not see it. Since the area is fenced off, we
could not get closer to the area where it went.
We had close, great looks at the resident Scaled Quails who seemed to be posing
on a picnic table.
Ended up with an interesting tarantula.
Good birding,
Cecile Lee
