The immature Red-headed Woodpecker was on the North Side of the Arkansas River, at Pathfinder Park (between Florence and Canon City along Hwy 115). There are four or five big cottonwood trees on the North Side of the River. It was in the eastern most tree. I walked east from the parking lot near the boat ramp, fishing pond, until I could see the trees from the dirt trail. You'll have to look across the river, to see these trees. I don't know if the bird ever comes to the south side of the river or not. I think this bird has been around since the end of December in the same trees and seen by many, so I didn't try to explain where the bird was, from my phone this morning. Since the bird is kind of far away, you might want to carry a scope, for the best views. I think this bird is mostly of interest to local birders, as we don't see them very often in Fremont County (I hadn't ever seen one actually in this county).
