ARAPAHOE COUNTY: --The Greenwood Village Varied Thrush continues to visit the backyard of Kirby and Mary Eleanor Cockerham as of April 22. If you would like to try to see the bird please call the Cockerhams at 303-771-8021 and arrange for a visit. The best viewing is from their kitchen. The bird is getting more difficult to predict and view. --A Lesser Black-backed Gull was reported by Kennedy at Cherry Creek SP on April 18. --A breeding plumaged Red-throated Loon was reported by Walbek at Cherry Creek SP on April 19. It was seen from east shore, mid-lake near the dam. BENT COUNTY: --At John Martin Reservoir on April 23, Duane Nelson reported 6 Piping Plovers, 1 Snowy Plover, 1 ad breeding plumaged NEOTROPIC CORMORANT, and 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull (West End). If you want to see the Piping Plovers please contact Duane off-line. BOULDER COUNTY: --On April 16, Kaempfer reported a great Longspur find on Oxford Rd between 115th and 119th. He reported 60 McCown's, 12 Chestnut-collared, 1-2 Lapland, and 1 SMITH'S. On April 17, Deininger reported Chestnut-collared, Lapland, and McCown's Longspurs on 115th. Waltman reported 100+ Chesnut-collared and 100+ McCown's Longspur in East Boulder County on April 17. On April 18, Waltman report the 3 species of longspurs on 115th S of Oxford and Hansley reported 3 species of longspurs, some on 115th and some on Oxford E of 115th. --An Eastern Phoebe was reported by Mark Miller at the 75th St Bridge over Boulder Creek on April 20. --A Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Joel Such on Old South Saint Vrain Road in Lyons on April 22. DELTA COUNTY: --A pair of black Phoebes was reported by Harris at the headgate of Relief Canal on the W side of Gunnison River at the end of H75 Road on April 21. --A Fox Sparrow was reported by Beason along Stewart Ditch on the edge of Paonia on April 23. --2 Caspian Terns were reported by Bradley at Hart's Basin on April 23. DOUGLAS/JEFFERSON COUNTIES: --On April 17, Kellner reported 9 McCown's and 1 Lapland Longspur on the road to Plum Creek Nature Area and 1 Rusty Blackbird at the base of the marina sandspit -- east of the marina. On April 18 at Chatfield, Walbek reported 18 McCown's Longspurs, 4 Lapland Longspurs, 1 Chestnut-collared Longspur, and a Broad-winged Hawk. --On April 21, Warneke reported that the Eastern Phoebe was singing away at "Phoebe Bridge" at Chatfield. . EAGLE COUNTY: --A Fox Sparrow was reported by McConnell at Brush Creek on April 21. EL PASO COUNTY: --A Harris's Sparrow was reported by Pals at Fountain Creek Nature Center on April 20 FREMONT COUNTY: --At Sells Lake in Canon City, Moss reported Green Heron, Black and Eastern Phoebes on April 20. --2 Eastern "type" Phoebes were reported by Moss east of Sell's Lake Parking Area in Canon City on April 21. --2 Black Phoebes were reported by Moss along the MacKenzie Ave part of Canon City Riverwalk on April 21. --A Broad-winged Hawk and imm Harris's Sparrow were reported by Moss in Canon City on April 22. HUERANO COUNTY: --A Black Phoebe was reported by Neldner at Lathrop SP on April 20. JEFFERSON COUNTY: --The GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW at the Red Rocks Trading Post, first reported by Henwood on October 26, was seen again on April 22 by Henwood. --On April 20, Henwood reported that the "Slate-colored" Fox Sparrow was seen at Red Rocks Trading Post. --A F Rose-breasted Grosbeak was reported by Bob Santangelo of Wheat Ridge Redpoll fame on April 18. The grosbeak has been visiting the same feeders as the redpolls did, but she is very skittish so patience is required to see her. Santagelo reported on April 22 that the Grosbeak continues to visit the feeders. His address is 3525 Estes. Please do NOT park in the driveway, but it is okay to park in front of the driveway and get out of cars to see the feeders. --2 Broad-winged Hawks were reported by Madsen over the Dinosaur Ridge Hawk Watch on April 19. On April 20, Farrell reported 4 Broad-winged Hawks over Dinosaur Ridge Hawk Watch. On April 21, 2 Broad-winged Hawks were reported by Joyce Commercon over Dinosaur Ridge Hawk Watch. KIOWA COUNTY: --An American Golden-Plover was reported by Dowell at Neegronda Reservoir off of Hwy 287 in the SE corner on April 20. LARIMER COUNTY: --At Horseshoe Lake on April 17, Komar reported 4-th cyc Great Black-backed Gull, Caspian Tern, 2-nd cyc Mew Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gulls (1 4-th-cyc, 1 1-st cyc), and an imm Thayer's Gull. At Horseshoe Lake on April 21, Komar reported Caspian Tern and 4-th cyc Lesser Black-backed Gull. --An ad light morph Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Sparks about 100 ft W of Lee Martinez Park and the Poudre Bike Trail intersection on April 18. A Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Bosley at Lee Martinez Park between the parking lot off Cherry and footbridge across the Poudre on April 19. MONTROSE COUNTY: --A first summer M Indigo Bunting was reported by Dexter in Nucla on April 18. PROWERS COUNTY: --An imm dark morph Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Duane Nelson at Lamar Community College Woods on April 23. PUEBLO COUNTY: --A M McCown's Longspur was reported by Percival along W Fishing Road at Pueblo Reservoir on April 18. --A Western Palm Warbler was reported by Percival at Osprey Picnic Area below Pueblo Reservoir Dam on April 21. --Black Phoebes were reported by Percival on the Arkansas River below Pueblo Reservoir Dam and at Rock Canyon below Pueblo Reservoir Dam on April 21. WELD COUNTY: --Chestnut-collared and McCown's Longspurs were reported by Lefto on Hwy 85 between Nunn and Ault on April 18. --At Union Reservoir on April 21, Mlodinow reported 1 ad Thayer's Gull. --At Firestone Gravel Pits on April 23, Sheeter reported 2 Red-necked Grebes. --A 3-rd cyc Glaucous Gull was reported by Mlodinow at Windsor Lake on April 21. --At Black Hollow Reservoir on April 21, Mlodinow reported 2 1-st cyc Thayer's Gulls. --A Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Mlodinow at Crow Valley CG on April 21. --A Lapland Longspur was reported by Mlodinow at Murphy's Pasture on April 21. Bring lunch and plan to walk as much as 3 miles on trails. Will be back at the Sears parking lot by about 6 pm.
