Went to Lowell ponds, then Prospect park this evening, At Lowell, saw 4
american avocets, and what I,m nearly positive was a solitary sandpiper.
However, was not super-close. Was next to a spotted for comparison. About
25 % larger, darker legs and bill, some faint barring, but no spotting on
front. Also showed white on tail when flying. At Prospect saw an adult
virginia rail along the south side of the boardwalk of what I believe is
West lake. May be returning from last year, saw it there then. Other
highlights included 2 pair of hooded mergansers, wood ducks, assorted
dabblers and a huge fallout of yellow-rumped warblers.
